The Train Brain

The world’s first fully automated real-time transit forecaster.

Knocking out knock-on effects

The most common cause of train delays is knock-on effects of other delays. This means there are specific patterns to how delays spread in every rail network. By identifying these patterns The Train Brain can forecast delays up to 2 hours in advance. Even reduce them.

The Train Brain was recognized as one of the 30 most creative innovations at Cannes Lions Innovation 2016.

What we do

We provide a forecasting service, a fully automated stream of traffic forecasts for all arrivals and departures in our client’s network. And for maximum reliability all forecasts for all trains are recalibrated every 60 seconds. The forecasts are provided to clients through an API.

What is in it for you?

Useful traffic information
Notifying commuters of delays up to 2 hours in advance gives them control of their time and they can reschedule their planned commute while it is still possible. And they like that!

Improved punctuality
By making forecasts available to traffic control they can work pro-actively and find the best way to solve traffic problems before it spreads throughout the rail network.

More trains, better forecasts
With a lot of trains running at the same time delays are almost inevitable. But it also provides The Train Brain with more data, making the forecasts even more accurate.

How it works

1: Through a live flow of traffic data The Train Brain reads the positions of all trains out running.

2: As soon as a disruption occurs The Train Brain compares it to its stored data and produces a forecast in one minute.

3: If a new pattern is identified The Train Brain calculates the expected impact and stores the new pattern to its memory.

4: The forecasts are made available to the transit operators through an API.
